The West African Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (WAIMM) has donated an amount of GH 90,000 Ghana cedi (which is the equivalent US$13,250.00) to the fund Committee set up for the reconstruction of the Appiatse Township near Bogoso in the Western Region.

This follows an explosive disaster incident that occurred on 20th January 2022 killing at least 13 people when a truck carrying explosives to a gold mine crashed with a motorcycle in the Township.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of the WAIMM to the Appiatse Support Fund Committee at the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in Ghana, the Executive Secretary Lawrence Omari-Mensah assured, WAIMM will be with the community during the long and painful journey of recovery and reconstruction.

WAIMM is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization with the strategic objective of deepening professionalism in the mining and petroleum industry. The organization currently has membership representations in Liberia, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Senegal, Mali, Cote D’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Niger and Ghana within the West African subregion.
